Planeteer Capital backs pre-seed and seed founders in climate, the kind Managing Partner Sophie Purdom describes as having nonlinear ambition and otherworldly urgency. The fund invests globally, with a growing focus on energy and the physical systems built around it, from the grid to the built environment to industrial supply chains, where categories are still forming and future breakout companies remain hard to spot.
At that stage, much of the game is seeing everything. Miss the category winner early and you find out when it raises $100M, reading the news like everyone else.
Currence (formerly Sightline Climate) is an AI-native market intelligence company, built for the teams financing and building the energy system. The two firms have a unique relationship: both grew organically out of the beloved CTVC newsletter, co-written by Purdom and Kim Zou, Currence CEO and co-founder.
So when Currence began beta testing its API, Zou had a natural first user in mind. Planeteer's Head of Platform Allie Mullen began wiring Currence's data directly into her own database and vibe-coded a tool that does three things at once using the API: surfaces every relevant new deal the day it appears, flags companies they once passed on the moment those companies raise again, and keeps every record in the Planeteer CRM enriched against Currence's company and sector taxonomy.
“This is where the alpha is,” Mullen said. “The edge at early-stage is seeing everything and picking well, and this gives us the data to do both. We literally see 100% of the deals in our category.”
Mapping the whole CRM to Currence's taxonomy
Every company in Planeteer's CRM gets enriched against Currence's data: round size, vertical, sector and full taxonomy, the investors in each round, the date of the last raise, and a link straight to the company's website and Currence profile. Mullen backfilled it across thousands of past deals. Now the agent runs daily, enriching new deals as they land and refreshing the rest, keeping the CRM current on its own while improving by learning as it goes.
The taxonomy fits Planeteer so cleanly because Purdom helped build it. The sectors and themes that organize Currence's data trace back to the same framework she and Zou developed in the early days of CTVC.
"We've built our CRM on that framework since day one, so our whole history is already organized the way Currence sees the market," Mullen said. "The API supercharges that. You're starting inside your own dataset and making it richer, and because we're such a hyper-specific thematic fund, Currence is a one-to-one match."
Sourcing every new deal the day it lands
To solve the sourcing problem, Mullen vibe coded her own tool using the Currence API: a daily feed of the full universe of global relevant companies, including a thesis-fit score that weighs stage, how recently a company raised, whether a known backer led the round, and how well it maps to Planeteer's focus areas. Every morning the investment team runs the queue, pulls what is relevant, and clears the rest.
Monitoring the deals Planeteer passed on
The same system works in reverse. Alongside the feed of new companies, Mullen built a second feed that watches the companies Planeteer has already seen and flags the moment one of them hits a new signal, a raise, project financing, a grant, or a shutdown.. When one lands, it surfaces automatically with the full internal history, a summary of previous call notes, and the original pass reason, right next to the new round details.
This is how Planeteer checks its own work. A high-conviction fund makes deliberate calls about where to deploy, and watching those decisions play out in real time is how the team sharpens its judgment.
“A no today isn't a no forever,” Mullen said. “Early-stage changes fast, so we keep rich notes and our own tags on the companies and founders we'd want to re-engage, so when something shifts, a pivot, a new round, we can pick the relationship right back up instead of rebuilding the context.”
